A Tarot Spread for When They're Not Texting Back

This tarot spread is perfecting if you're going through dating anxiety or when they're not texting you back. You might be compulsively checking your phone and wondering why they haven't replied, or checking all their social media profiles to see when they last posted. It can send us spiralling into the worst case scenarios and pull us out of the present.


Before I go into this spread, a gentle heads up:


This spread will not give you a yes or no answer about whether they'll text you back. What it will do is help you understand what's in your control, what you're feeling, and how you can find some grounding right now.


If you're in the early stages of dating someone and find yourself caught in that waiting place, this one is for you.


How to Read the "When They're Not Texting You Back" Tarot Spread:

Card 1: What you're not seeing in the present


This represents what you're missing out on right now. This is perhaps relating to feelings you're avoiding or experiences and possibilities that you’re missing out on because you’re fixating on this person getting back to you. Even if this card is not reversed, this card can represent an obstacle to the present. So ask yourself: what is it showing you that you might be overlooking?


Card 2: What underlying feelings are driving your actions


This card sits beneath Card 1, and that placement is intentional. It represents the deeper feelings, beliefs, or stories that are fuelling how you're showing up right now. These might be thoughts about your own worth, your lovability, or what you believe you deserve from others. Look closely at how this card interacts with Card 1, as the relationship between them will give you a real clue about what this situation is bringing up in you.


Card 3: What past relationship wounds are being brought forward


Positioned behind Cards 1 and 2, this card speaks to a past influence that's shaping your present experience. If a Court Card appears here, it may represent a specific person whose energy is impacting the way you're seeing this situation. Consider the Court Card's personality, their posture, the way they carry themselves in the image, as this is a clue to how that energy is showing up for you right now.


Card 4: How you can support yourself moving forward


This is your momentum card and the one asking you to take action It might point toward self-care, community, creative expression, or simply speaking your truth. If it appears reversed, this could be suggesting something you haven't considered yet, or a form of support that feels difficult to reach for right now. Either way, this is your first step.


Card 5: The potential outcome


This is your outcome card, but remember: it's never fixed. Think of Card 4 as the bridge that helps you move toward it. If the imagery here feels positive and expansive, look for small ways to bring that energy into your present. If it feels challenging, return to the other cards and ask where more grounding might be needed. The outcome can shift as you do.
