If The Empress keeps appearing in your tarot readings, this spread will help you uncover the deeper message she's bringing. This Empress tarot spread is also a beautiful spread to use whenever you want to intentionally connect with The Empress' nurturing energy!
The Empress is one of my favourite cards to see in a reading. She often arrives as a reminder that you're exactly where you need to be. Rather than pushing or striving, she invites you to slow down, appreciate how far you've come, and trust the natural rhythm of your journey.
She also encourages you to nourish yourself, your relationships and your environment. She reminds us that creativity doesn’t come from doing more. Rather, it comes from creating space to rest and receive, so we can connect with what truly matters.

How to break down "The Empress Tarot Spread":

Card 1: The Empress Tarot Card
Put The Empress in this position. As she's at the top of the spread, all of the energy from the other cards will feed into her. Pay attention to any repeating symbols that appear on this card in other cards in your spread, as well as any repeating themes of grounding and ease.
Card 2: Past Energy or Influence
Positioned in the far left of the spread, this card reveals the past energy that has led you to this moment. It offers insight into why The Empress is showing up now and what may need your attention before you can fully embrace her message.
As the Divine Mother archetype, The Empress brings the energy of receiving. Notice where this card reflects your current experiences and what it's asking you to acknowledge with compassion.
Card 3: Deeper Lesson and where The Empress wants you to Slow Down
This card sits beneath the centre of the spread, representing the foundation of The Empress' wisdom. This card is where you need to root into right now, and where you need to slow down.
If this card appears reversed, this might indicate that this will be a challenge or that it’s an obstacle stopping you from receiving what the Empress is offering.
Card 4: The Obstacle
Positioned between cards 1 & 3, this card reveals what's standing in the way of fully embodying The Empress' energy.
If the card feels challenging, ask yourself where you're overcommitting and carrying more than you need to. This is showing you where you need to release.
If it feels more supportive, the obstacle may actually be your reluctance to pause and enjoy where you are before moving on to the next goal.
Card 5: Moving Forward
As this card is in the far right-hand side of the spread, this is what the Empress wants for you going forward.
Look at how you can inhabit this card with the Empress’ energy in mind: with grace and ease, rather than force and striving. If it’s a challenging card, this might be a time to really slow down and nurture yourself, as you might need it in the near future.
